The Pen – Accent and Underline

Life Lessons Through the Use of Everyday Items

Scripts & Lesson Plan Step-By-Step Training

I have been conducting sleight of hand magic and ventriloquist puppetry for about 26 years.  During that time, I have always worn a tuxedo shirt and snappy vest so I can make a good first impression and underline and accent the professionalism of what we do.  When I think of how you use a “BIC” to accent by underlining or accent important words or sentences worth remembering.  These illustrations remind me that as Christians, we are the Lord’s accent and image left on the memory of the Lord on the minds of those we have contact.  First Corinthians 10:31 declares: 31”Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.   32Give no offense, either to the Jews or to the Greeks or to the church of God,   33just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved”.  Colossians 4:6 reinforces this even more by stating, “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one”.  One great opportunity to provide that accent as a believer is to make our statements uplifting, sensitive and assuring for those who cross our paths.  Living out our faith is being a sermon in shoes!

If you remove the marking mechanism i.e. the ink tube and ball point end, you can use the pen cylinder to annoy others by shooting spit wads at them.  The same pen cylinder can be used as an emergency breathing device (temporary tracheotomy tube) to save a person from suffocation.  As believers, we have the opportunity to greatly affect others in very positive ways that meet their needs and draw them to the Lord we serve.  Or we can be negative, judgmental, unloving and be used in the same negative ways as using the pen cylinder to annoy or hurt others.

You may use the BIC as a relaxation device by slowly spinning or rotating the pen between your fingers.  The Bible is a similar relaxation device for our soul when you put your fingers to use and open it!  The Book of Psalms has hundreds of comforting verses alone.  The plan of salvation and assurance of eternal life are of relaxing assurances in the Bible.  The Bible tells us how to have our sins forgiven, our guilt relieved and a clear path to satisfaction and abundance in life.  Again, it will not help if it is not used.   Today is a good time to start.
