The ruler has a one main purpose which is to see how items “measures up” and meets the only approved standard or measuring stick by which all measurements on a project are judged. A few biblical life lessons come to mind.

As Christians we are called ambassadors of Christ: What is an “Ambassador”? An [1ambassador is an official representative or envoy who represents another sovereign or nation; in this case God and His heavenly kingdom. That person is the resident representative of their own sovereign and appointed for a special and often temporary diplomatic assignment. The work and outreach we do for the Lord measures or represent what people believe about God. The Bible says. Matthew 5:16 states, “Let your light so shine that everyone will see your good deed and glorify the father who is in heaven” and Colossians 3:17 “Whatever you do in word or deed do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” What do you understand these verses say about us as Ambassadors of God?

How do we “measure up”, meeting the standard of excellence as ambassadors of His kingdom? 2 Corinthians 5:20 declares, “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us”. So we become the standard that others look at when they are seeking God because we as an ambassador or the official representative of another government or kingdom. Whatever you do is measured immediately by others as “representing God” to them as well as in the sands of time by what history says about us. What we do is also remembered in the hearts of those who see you.

Instead of seeking a “standard” used by the non-believer (comparing ourselves against others); concentrate on God’s measuring stick described in the Bible. Through the power of the Holy Spirit at work in us we can achieve it. Colossians 3:17 describes the importance of our actions; “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all to the glory of God” and Eph. 2:10: “We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works that He should receive glory in them”. Phil 4:6 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever is true, whatsoever is right, whatsoever is pure, whatsoever is lovely, whatsoever is of good report, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things” and when we do this, we will fulfill the royal call as ambassadors of the King, Jesus Christ himself.

The following poem by an unknown author expresses the reality of our walk with the Lord and our work as representatives of His kingdom.
To KNOW Him is to LOVE Him,
To LOVE Him is to SERVE Him
If you don’t SERVE Him, YOU don’t LOVE Him and
If YOU don’t LOVE Him, YOU just don’t KNOW Him!
The question is how do you “measure up” as one seeking Christ’s forgiveness and secondly, if you are His ambassador and are living in Christ’s kingdom will you take the steps necessary to “measure up” as his representative to the world?
Our very position in Christ’s body, the church and His spiritual family is measured by the Living Word, Jesus Christ. The first thing is stated in Romans 3:23 where we find we all fail to “measure up” now. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” but it does not stop there! Verse 24, “and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ”. More of the answer is in Romans 6:23 where it declares, “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. Yes we do not measure up but Jesus stated He is the measuring stick by which entrance into heaven is measured when he said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father but through me (John 14:6). By trust Him as our Savior, we can measure up and become an ambassador then by the power of the Holy Spirit was can fulfill the purposes of such a high position.
